These spiderlings are captive bred and are feeding on D. hydei fruit flies and size 1 crickets.

Description:

The Regal Jumping Spider, Phidippus regius, is a large and colourful jumping spider native to the southeastern United States and parts of the Caribbean. This species is well-known for its curious and active behavior, excellent vision, and distinctive appearance.

• Size: Females typically measure 15-20 mm in body length, while males are smaller, around 10-13 mm.
• Coloration:
  • Males: Generally black with iridescent blue or green chelicerae and white or orange bands on their legs and abdomen.
  • Females: Range in color from black or gray with white spots to vibrant shades of orange or peach, with iridescent chelicerae.
• Eyes: The spider's large, forward-facing eyes provide exceptional depth perception and a "cute" appearance, which contributes to its popularity as a pet.

Care Sheet:

Housing:

• Enclosure: A small enclosure of about 20x20x30 cm with good ventilation is ideal.
• Substrate: Use a thin layer of coconut fiber, peat moss, or paper towels.
• Decor: Provide branches, cork bark, and artificial plants for climbing, with some hiding spots.

Temperature & Humidity:

• Temperature: Maintain between 24-28°C during the day. Nighttime temperatures can drop to around 21°C.
• Humidity: Keep humidity levels between 50-70%. Light misting every few days is sufficient.

Food and Water:

Provide water and humidity by misting one or two sides of the enclosure 3 - 5 times weekly. Offer food 1 to 2 times longer than the length of your spider. Feed your young spider 2-3 times weekly; 1 - 2 times weekly for adults. Your spider's abdomen is a visual indicator, when it's small your spider is hungry, when it's full they are too!

7th instar to adult: dubia roaches, bottle flies, crickets, mealworms, waxworms

Handling:

• Handling: Regal Jumping Spiders can be handled gently, but do so sparingly to avoid stress. They may jump, so handle close to a surface to prevent injury.

Molting:

• Care: During molting, the spider may stop eating and become lethargic. Do not disturb them during this period. Wait a day or two post-molt before feeding again.

Lifespan:

• Lifespan: Typically 1-2 years, with females sometimes living longer than males.
